Abstract: |
Shark attacks on humans represent a significant concern for coastal communities worldwide. The 2023 worldwide total of 69 confirmed unprovoked cases is in line with the most recent five-year (2018–2022) average of 63 incidents annually. In this study, an efficient portable shark shield electronic system with acoustic and/or electro-magnetic systems were designed and implemented. First, a double-layer PCB circuit comprises signal generator, pulse width modulation and power amplifier modules are designed and implemented to support both acoustic and electromagnetic (EM) shark deterrent wave technologies. The acoustic shark shield system has been designed with the aid of the 4-ohm, 3-watt loudspeaker as a radiation element while the EM system has a wire antenna and two electrodes to achieve EM wave radiation. Next, a numerical study by means of Multisim live demonstration circuit simulator has been implemented to check the validity of the proposed design. Finally, the numerical results were compared with the experimental results. The results showed that the achieved pulse amplitude is 115V with 54.95 Hz frequency in case of acoustic shark shield system, while these values are reduced to 53.2 V at 54.81Hz in case of EM shark system with artificial saltwater tank. However, the obtained peak amplitude at EM shark shield system achieved higher than the required standard values. |
